My mom is a great seamstress (proof is in the family album – those were some outfits), but I never wanted to get too involved in the sewing process. Mom knew the day would come when I would want to recover the throw pillows on the couch or save hundreds of dollars on window treatments, so she tried really hard to expose me to the art of sewing. (If I knew then what I know now, I would have asked more questions or been more interested….)
I confess that I would rather have been playing basketball or riding my skateboard, but I do remember cutting out fabric along the pattern lines, guiding the fabric under the needle, and pushing the pedal. As a result, if I ABSOLUTELY had to, I could probably make a hanky, a placemat or maybe even a pillow cover – no zippers, please. I’m more of a glue gun and staple gun kind of girl. Quick, easy, no needles…=o)
Well, that’s all going to change. Mom, I’ve bought a sewing machine and I’m going to really learn how to use it. The pillow covers shall have zippers!!!!
Here’s the sewing machine we bought.
Isn’t it beautiful? We’re going to be good friends; spending many hours together…I’ll keep you posted.
