More of Portugal

It's been a nice, relaxing weekend. Besides going to a huge neighborhood garage sale (where Mark bought a bike for $5 and I bought a CD for $1 - I know, big spenders...), we rested, did some cleaning/organizing, and took a LONG bike ride (to JBU and back). I think I need to rest even more now...

Our last day in Lisbon. We took some time and went to some cities right outside of Lisbon.

We also went to the Parque das Nacoes (Park of the Nations) where the '98 World Expo was held. While we were walking around, we saw this strange looking, futuristic, car go by us on the sidewalk and into a pavillion. It was going very slowly, so we were able to get a good look at it. We thought, "Well, that's interesting" and went on to the airport to fly to Madeira (to finally see Mom and Dad). Later that week, we were watching TV and saw a preview for Batman Begins, which was just coming out in Europe and recognized the Batmobile as the car we saw in Lisbon. This is pretty cool, but what's even more amazing is that we've also seen the old Batmobile, in Gentry, Arkansas (!). What unusual places to see the Batmobiles - Lisbon, Portugal and Gentry, Arkansas. =o)

These are some pictures of Sintra:

And this is the Parque das Nacoes, where we saw the Batmobile. We didn't take a picture of the car, because we didn't realize, at the time, that it was worthy of a picture =o)

1st day in Madeira. It was wonderful to go to sleep to the sound of the waves hitting the rocky beach right outside our window. We had a relaxing morning and afternoon with my parents (recuperating from our 10 days in 3 countries) and that evening went to a fancy dinner on a ship. We also watched fireworks set off from the shore from the open sea.

Santa Cruz, Madeira, where my parents live.

The 4 of us on the first morning in Madeira.

At the dinner party on the ship before we left the dock. The bay of Funchal (main city on Madeira Island) is in the background.

The fireworks over the bay of Funchal.
