On The Way There

Remembering Europe: May 25th, 2005

Our XNA - Houston flight was at 3:10pm so Mark went into work in the morning while I did some last minute errands (paying bills that would be due while we were gone, last minute travel things, etc, etc...).

It never really makes sense to me when we have to backtrack on a trip: XNA - Houston (excuse me, going in the opposite direction of Europe!) and Houston - Paris (now that was a looong flight!!!).

Travel days are usually pretty boring to recount - get to the airport, check-in, take your shoes off, go through security, go to your gate, get on a plane, fasten your seatbelt, unfasten your seatbelt, get off the plane. Repeat countless times. (Sometimes trips can make exciting stories...this one was pretty uneventful).

The one distinct memory I have of this day is of getting our packs out of the trunk of the car. I picked mine up and put it on my back and as we were walking to the terminal I started telling Mark, "I'm not going to make it. I'm not going to be able to carry this all over Europe for 2 weeks." Panic was starting to set in as I reconsidered every little thing I packed (not that I had the luxury of pulling anything out). Jumping ahead in time: I made it and I didn't pull anything out.

At the end of the day on May 25th, 2005 we were somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean on our way to Paris.
