Creative Black Tie

Mark and I were invited to an event tomorrow night where the attire is Creative Black Tie. I hadn't really heard of this as an official attire category and my guess is many others didn't either because the invitation said: "Google It." So I did. Because of course, like any other girl, the first thing I said when I saw the invitation was "what in the world am I going to wear?"

Creative Black Tie leaves room for trendy interpretations of formal wear. He can go more modern with a tux -- maybe a black shirt, no tie. She wears long or short dresses or evening separates.
Sometimes, themed parties call for dress codes like Texas Black Tie or other variations of Creative Black Tie. In that situation, you can have more fun with it, choosing a dressy look with a theme (for him, it could be a tux with boots and for her it could be a long dress paired with Southwestern style silver belt and jewelry).

It's an Oscar Night inspired event - red carpet, "paparazzi", awards, the works. So, no Texas Black Tie, thankfully.

Mark doesn't own a tux, so we're going to have to be extra creative with his. I only own one dress that would qualify as a dressy cocktail dress so that's what I'm wearing. Now I just have to figure out how to accessorize and make it "creative." Mark thinks that I should wear my black-rimmed eye glasses. That's a start. So, see what wardrobe fun we're about to have?

Tomorrow is definitely a party day - a 2 yr old birthday party in the morning and a creative black tie event in the evening.
