Just Like the Old Days

I feel like I'm back in college. Of course, it's probably hard to think otherwise since I really haven't ever left, but it's nights like these that just seem so strange.

It's 9pm and I'm standing outside the library. I just finished playing my first indoor soccer game of the intramural season - we won, yes (hopefully we can claim the indoor championship, we're the defending outdoor champs)

Anyway, I digress...I'm standing outside the library thinking how although things may look different, nothing much has changed.

Different - The library has a whole new system of getting in and out. The same two doors are still there, but instead of the two turnstiles, there are just security detectors like at a retail store. When I was in college, we always had to go in the left door and turnstile and exit out of the right ones. As I stand here watching, there's really no rhyme or reason to which door people use. Guess which door I went through. Yep, the left one and didn't even think about it. Now, the longer I stand here the longer I see other people doing the same thing I did, so I think the ones who do it the "wrong" way are freshman. Never saw the good ole days of subway style turnstiles. Ahh...

Different - I'm typing this on a brand new computer that was never here. One of 6 new computers, actually. Man, these are nice.

Different - There's nice new, pretty furniture that has replaced the really old orange couches that if we all really took a second to think about them, we never would have actually sat on them. Who knows what the heck was lurking underneath those cushions.

Same - The good ol' vending machines are still standing. Vending machines that I used way too often as I studied in this building (back when I was in college this was the only building open 24 hours that students could come and study in).

Same - There's a couple sitting on one of the couches studying. Yep...just like in college. That will probably never change. Although I do have to say that it does seem like they are focused. Good for them. Their parents will be proud.

So yeah, technology and furnishings have changed, but it's still the same old feel. It's just that now I don't have homework to do. And now I can go home with my "boyfriend". And that we are. Goodnight.
